Putting God And The Gospel First
Two Trevin Wax items this morning. First, an appreciative review of his recent book, "Counterfeit Gospels: Rediscovering the Good News in a World of False Hope". The review includes this summary of the "gospels" too often substituted for the Gospel:

* The "therapeutic gospel" corrupts the Gospel Story by redefining the problem the Gospel solves, making it about me and my felt needs rather than about God's remedy to restore a fallen creation.

* The "judgmentless gospel" corrupts the Gospel Story by redefining the Story's conclusion, downplaying the seriousness of sin and evil and God's commitment to put the world to rights.

* The "moralistic gospel" corrupts the Gospel Announcement by replacing Good News with good advice and making it about the works we do rather than about what Christ did in our stead and on our behalf.

* The "quietist gospel" corrupts the Gospel Announcement, which is a public announcement of Christ's triumph over all the powers of sin, evil, and death, by turning it into privatized religious experience.

* The "activist gospel" corrupts the Gospel Community by turning the church into a mission that is more concerned about causes than about Christ, confusing the effects of the Gospel with the Gospel itself.

* The "churchless gospel" corrupts the Gospel Community by making membership and involvement in a community of believers optional or even by viewing participation in a church as detrimental to my own personal spiritual formation.

In each chapter, Wax gives reasons as to why each counterfeit is so attractive to people, and some suggestions as to how we might "counter the counterfeit" by living in the light of the true Gospel..... [more]And second, an article by Trevin Wax himself about evangelical worship, "Steak on a Paper Plate: Serious Worship in a Casual World":

.... One of the core values of many an evangelical church is the effort to put everyone at ease. "Good morning," says the minister or worship leader. Then comes the inevitable: "Let's try that again, GOOD MORNING!" There's a chatty, street-level style of worship that has become prevalent in evangelicalism. And it's not clear that your pursuit of casual novelty in worship meshes well with hearing the Word of God set forth in all its glory.

Can a contemporary, casual service bring worshipers face to face with the glory of God in a way that buttresses and upholds the magnificent truths being expounded from the Word? I think the answer is yes, but not always.....

When it comes to worship, we're frequently told that form doesn't matter. Style is not what's important. I get that. I'm not belittling contemporary music or advocating a return to liturgy, organs, and hymns. Cultural forms adjust and adapt, and some contemporary worship services have thrown me to my knees before the holiness and majesty of God. The issue isn't "formal" versus "informal," casual clothes versus Sunday best, traditional versus contemporary.

The problem is not with casual worship styles, but with "casually worshiping" God in whatever style.....

Form and content are rarely easy to separate. They mirror one another. A church with serious Bible preaching will generally have a serious worship service (contemporary or traditional, formal or informal, but "serious"). A church with a feel-good preacher will generally have peppy, feel-good music.

Christians need to sense the weight of God's glory, the truths of God's Word, the reality of coming judgment, and the gloriousness of God's grace..... [more]IM Book Review: Counterfeit Gospels internetmonk.com, Steak on a Paper Plate: Serious Worship in a Casual World

Pearl Dust

This came via email by an "Anglican Friend of God":

ANGLICAN PATRIMONY

An anonymous commentator calling himself 'Father' writes the following on the Anglo-Catholic blog:

It seems to boil down to what one thinks the Anglican patrimony consists. The anti-AC-cabal seems to think Rome wants to annihilate this patrimony. But what is this patrimony they so desire to maintain? I don't think I'm a lone Anglican voice in expressing that the dearest patrimonies are:

1. The AV

2. The Coverdale Psalter

3. "Cranmerina" English

(Some might add membership to the country club.)

What else of our unique Anglican identity does not Rome already embrace?

What an astonishing reduction. The Anglican patrimony consists of a prose style and nothing more: perhaps not even the "Book of Common Prayer"!

The sad thing is that 'Father' probably has gained little more from the Anglicanism which he claims as his own. We fear that 'Father' is not apt to learn, but we will try nonetheless, if only to help some of those who might find themselves reading this.

What is the Anglican patrimony? Here are some parts of an answer.

1. George Herbert. The piety and devotion and art of Herbert are distinctively Anglican. The superiority of Herbert's inspiration can be seen by comparing him to another priest-poet, Richard Crashaw, who preceded the TAC down the Anglican-to-Rome trail by about four centuries. Crashaw's poetry is baroque and empurpled, full of Counter-Reformation piety and questionable taste. Yet for all Crashaw's uninhibited, Catholic sensibility, his verse is much less inventive than Herbert's in form, in vocabulary, and in imagination. Most readers who spend time with both poets will agree that Herbert is Crashaw's superior in almost every respect. Crashaw stands for a hothouse kind of devotion and piety which flourish in the Roman Catholic world and not in Anglicanism. Herbert stands for the restrained, but nonetheless deeply felt and deeply moving, faith of Anglicanism at its best, and for all the art inspired thereby. Take Herbert as a synecdoche for a large swathe of our patrimony in poetry, music, architecture, and literature.

2. An emphasis on a strong and achievable lay piety. Roman Catholicism tended to develop a bifurcated piety and morality, with one set of standards for the clergy (the Counsels of Perfection; mandatory clerical celibacy; a Daily Office not realistically open to busy layfolk; etc.) and another for the laity (many rules stating minimum obligations below which the laity were not to fall; concessions to the lower capacities of laity; emphasis on avoidance of sin rather lay sanctity). The Prayer Book and Anglicanism in general set a more uniform standard, which at its best embraces a kind of integrated, Benedictine vision of work and prayer and family life. Any Anglican layman can say the Prayer Book Offices, find a realistic model for his life in the clergy, and believe that he is fulfilling the whole duty of man rather than pursuing a second-class vocation. The bifurcated piety and morality of old Roman Catholicism are now out of fashion, but still can be seen in the rank clericalism of Roman parish life and of the Roman bureaucracies.

3. Anglican rectory life. English life and civilization and Anglican life in general are heavily influenced by the clerical home and are enriched by the children of rectories and vicarages. (See previous point for a related idea.) Think, say, of Jane Austen as the product of a rectory. Or think of the 'high priestly' clans: the Knoxes, the Temples, the Bensons. Or, taking another path to the same conclusion, since Mr. Arabin did not topple over into the pool of Rome in the end, think of his domestic life with Eleanor Harding Bold - and think of the children they undoubtedly had and of what those children undoubtedly achieved.

4. The sermons of Lancelot Andrewes. The devotion and piety of Andrewes include an avoidance of sterile theological debate, an embrace of the Fathers, a deeply sacramental and emblematic view of the world, and an eschewal of doctrinal innovation. There are of course fine Roman Catholic sermons (think Bossuet) - but nothing approaching Andrewes in English.

5. A conservative but not fundamentalist theological spirit. An irenic temper that can be found, but not commonly, among Roman Catholic theologians. A strong theory of "adiaphora" without doctrinal reductionism. A contrary spirit of innovation seems to be at work everywhere in the Roman Catholic Church these days. Forget the doctrine of the papal office itself, or the Marian doctrines, or even the proposed enormity of our Lady as the Mediatrix of All Grace. The spirit of innovation is evident in much simpler and more easily understood matters. What Church Father gives support for girl acolytes, female lectors, meat on Fridays, or lay administration of Holy Communion? Yet Rome permits such things and many similar.

6. Auden. Eliot. Ken. Law. Swift. Mascall. Trollope. Donne. Hooker. C.S. Lewis. Dorothy Sayers. Charles Williams "The English Hymnal". Kenneth Kirk. Austin Farrer. English cathedral and collegiate choirs. Gothic Revival. Etc., etc.

7. Or since an Anglo-papalist asks the question, we might explain the Anglican patrimony by thinking how very little is left to the Roman Catholic Church in the English-speaking world once you subtract the Anglican converts: Cardinal Newman and Cardinal Manning; S. Elizabeth Seton; G.M. Hopkins; Crashaw; Ronald Knox; Father Faber; G.K. Chesterton; Evelyn Waugh. Etc., etc.

Need we go on?

- "Theophilus Anglicanus"

"The silly comment that he has answered so well with this list (not exhaustive, not meant to be) expresses the level of understanding we expect to see on that blog. It is very easy to throw away a treasure if one does not recognize it, or to discard something for which one has never worked. Understanding the riches we have does take some work, reading and learning. We cannot understand the lack of appreciation by those who speak of a "450 year-old experiment...[that] has failed," or who define Anglicanism as "English culture." No wonder they think AC is meant to preserve Anglican riches - they haven't got a clue.

Implicitum Votum
"NOR DOES DIVINE PROVIDENCE DENY THE HELPS NECESSARY FOR SALVATION TO THOSE WHO, WITHOUT BLAME ON THEIR PART, HAVE NOT YET ARRIVED AT AN EXPLICIT KNOWLEDGE OF GOD AND WITH HIS GRACE STRIVE TO LIVE A GOOD LIFE. Whatever good or truth is found amongst them is looked upon by the Church as a preparation for the Gospel. She knows that it is given by Him who enlightens all men so that they may finally have life." (Lumen Gentium, No. 16).Followers of the late Fr. Leonard Feeney have initiated a discussion thread at the Holy Cross Cardinal Newman Society website with an article written by Fr. Brian W. Harrison, O.S., and entitled "Can an 'implicit faith' in Christ be sufficient for salvation?"*The answer is: yes. Let's hear from Avery Cardinal Dulles on the subject: "The Magisterium of the Church has gradually clarified its position regarding the possibilities of salvific faith for the unevangelized. From patristic times until our own century the axiom 'Outside the Church no salvation' was often stated in terms that "seemed to make" explicitly Christian and Catholic faith an absolute condition for salvation. For example, the Council of Florence in its Decree for the Jacobites (1442) asserted: '[The Holy Roman Church] firmly believes, professes, and preaches that none of those who exist outside of the Catholic Church - not only pagans but also Jews or heretics and schismatics - can become sharers of eternal life; rather, they will go into the eternal fire 'that was prepared for the devil and his angels' [Mt 25: 41] unless, before the end of their lives, they are joined to that same Church.' (DS 1351).This position was nuanced in the mid-nineteenth century. In an allocution given on the occasion of the definition of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin in 1854, Pope Pius IX reminded the assembled bishops of the error of thinking that Catholics 'can well hope for the eternal salvation of all those who have in no way lived in the true Church of Christ.' BUT THEN HE ADDED THAT GOD IN HIS JUSTICE AND MERCY WILL NEVER IMPUTE GUILT TO THOSE WHO INNOCENTLY ERR. WE MUST NOT PRESUME TO JUDGE THE LIMITS OF INVINCIBLE IGNORANCE, 'TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE GREAT VARIETY OF PEOPLES, LANDS, NATIVE TALENTS, AND SO MANY OTHER FACTORS.' In an encyclical of 1863 the same pope again repudiated the extremes of rigorism and latitudinarianism. He wrote:'It is once again necessary to recall and censure the very serious error in which some Catholics are unfortunately involved, that of believing that it is possible to attain eternal life although living in error and in a state of alienation from the true faith and from Catholic unity. This view is utterly contrary to Catholic teaching. You know also that people who are invincibly ignorant of our holy religion, provided that they sincerely keep the precepts of the natural law, who are prepared to obey God, and who live honorable and upright lives, can, by the efficacious power of the light and grace of God, attain eternal life; for God, who fully beholds, scrutinizes, and knows the minds, hearts, thoughts, and dispositions of all, in his supreme mercy will by no means permit anyone who is not guilty of voluntary fault to suffer eternal punishments.'Under Pius XII the salvation of 'nonbelievers' was discussed in connection with the necessity of belonging to the true Church in order to be saved. THE ENCYCLICAL MYSTICI CORPORIS (1943), AFTER DECLARING THAT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ALONE IS THE MYSTICAL BODY OF CHRIST, SPOKE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF BELONGING TO IT NOT BY FORMAL MEMBERSHIP BUT 'BY A KIND OF UNCONSCIOUS DESIRE AND INTENT' (INSCIO QUODAM DESIDERIO AC VOTO, DS 3821). THE POPE SEEMED TO IMPLY THAT THIS LATTER TYPE OF BELONGING, EVEN THOUGH IT DID NOT GIVE THE FULL BENEFITS OF INCORPORATION IN THE VISIBLE ORGANIZATION OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, MIGHT SUFFICE FOR SALVATION IN THE CASE OF PERSONS INCULPABLY IGNORANT OF THE TRUE FAITH.IN 1949 THE HOLY OFFICE, IN A LETTER TO THE ARCHBISHOP OF BOSTON, DECLARED THAT AN 'IMPLICIT INTENT' (IMPLICITUM VOTUM) COULD SUFFICE, PROVIDED THAT IT WAS ACCOMPANIED BY SUPERNATURAL FAITH AND PERFECT CHARITY (DS 3870-72). These texts, while not dealing directly with the kind of faith required for salvation, implied that explicit faith in Christ and the Church would not be necessary in the case of the unevangelized....As late as the mid-twentieth century Leonard Feeney, S.J., and his followers at St. Benedict Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, proclaimed that no one could be saved without joining, or explicitly intending to join, the Roman Catholic Church. FEENEY'S PESSIMISTIC POSITION WAS, HOWEVER, REJECTED BY THE ROMAN CONGREGATION OF THE HOLY OFFICE, WHICH ASSERTED, AS ALREADY MENTIONED, THAT A MERELY IMPLICIT DESIRE TO JOIN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, IF ACCOMPANIED BY FAITH AND INFORMED BY PERFECT CHARITY, COULD SUFFICE." (The Assurance of Things Hoped For: A Theology of Christian Faith, pp. 259-260, 262).Fr. Brian W. Harrison has no authority to contradict the Teaching Magisterium of the Church. Neither do the followers of the late Fr. Leonard Feeney. As Richard B [a Catholic apologist from the Worcester Diocese] explained at the Holy Cross Cardinal Newman Society website:"Theologians are not in any way the Teaching Magisterium. Fr. Feeney or any of his followers are in error to think that they can, in any measure, take on the charism of the Teaching Magisterium and thereby proclaim what the dogma [Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus] is all about...Only Peter, by himself alone, or with the Bishops, who are one with Peter, have the charism to proclaim the content of this dogma."Well said Richard. This situation is very serious. Followers of the late Fr. Leonard Feeney who are defending his rejected interpretation of the dogma are continuing to sow the seeds of dissent from the Church's authentic teaching on the subject. This situation needs to be addressed in a meaningful way by Church authorities.Related reading here and here.* The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, in its 1990 Instruction on the Ecclesial Vocation of the Theologian, distinguishes clearly between questions which theologians may raise about authoritative but noninfallible teachings (nos. 24-31) and dissent from such teachings (nos. 32-41). The document judges that questioning can be compatible with the "religious submission" required (see Lumen Gentium, No. 25), but it firmly and unequivocally rejects dissent from such teachings as incompatible with this "religious submission" and irreconcilable with the theologian's vocation. Dissent from infallibly proposed teachings (such as the Church's understanding of the dogma "Outside the Church no salvation") is a fortiori excluded. This teaching is outlined quite clearly in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which Pope John Paul II says, "..is a statement of the Church's faith and of Catholic doctrine, attested to or illumined by Sacred Scripture, the Apostolic Tradition, and the Church's Magisterium." (Apostolic Constitution Fidei Depositum, No. 3). In this same Apostolic Constitution, Pope John Paul II states that the Catechism "..is the result of the collaboration of the whole Episcopate of the Catholic Church." (No. 2).Theologians such as Fr. Brian Harrison are not "pastors" within the Church. They have not been given the mission from the Lord Jesus to instruct the faithful in "all that serves to make the People of God live their lives in holiness and increase their faith" (Dei Verbum, No. 8). This mission has been entrusted exclusively to the Magisterium of the Church, i.e., the Pope and those Bishops who remain united with him.Dei Verbum of the Second Vatican Council teaches that, "the task of "authentically interpreting" the word of God, whether written or handed on, HAS BEEN ENTRUSTED EXCLUSIVELY TO THE LIVING TEACHING OFFICE OF THE CHURCH, WHOSE AUTHORITY IS EXERCISED IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST. This teaching office is not above the word of God, but serves it, teaching only what has been handed on, listening to it devoutly, guarding it scrupulously and explaining it faithfully in accord with a divine commission and with the help of the Holy Spirit, it draws from this one deposit of faith everything which it presents for belief as divinely revealed." (No. 10).

The Hhs Ruling And The Boundaries Of The Secular
The HHS ruling is competently rigid (TO SAY THE LEAST!) and probably a bad sponsor move on the part of the cranium. We could survey this if we were on a sponsor blog. I'm very proud of First in command Harrison for loot such a strong power dwelling voguish this time of quandary. I put up with he is testifying ahead assembly as I write down this.

In any defend, my friend Adam and I were oral communication on the handset yesterday and he brought up a deeper suit in the unmitigated ruling. Namely, that what the HHS ruling is actually ham it up is hard to define the Cathedral. What record race don't comply with is that the route is not eliminating the self-righteous principles section chastely. Logically, what they are ham it up is important self-righteous institutions is very intently. For them, a "SELF-RIGHTEOUS" the system need involuntarily be an the system that unmistakably deals with adore.

Now this is very attention-grabbing in the role of as my friend prickly out, this makes their move everything absence a outline of "AUGSBURG TEMPORARY II." To forgive hastily for frequent who are unfamiliar: Utterly formerly Luther died, the Charles the V took surplus a lot of the Lutheran lands and as a result tried to impress a watered down outline of Catholicism on the Lutherans. The opening walk off (THE AUGSBURG TEMPORARY) was too hopeless and none of the notable Lutheran theologians would buy at home it. The instant (THE LEIPZIG TEMPORARY) was an walk off (MAINLY) to burden Catholic ceremonies on the Lutherans. Melanchthon bought at home this (FUNDAMENTAL) and claimed that the hope of the Cathedral couldn't be prepared by the state, but in beyond belongings (SMELLS AND CARILLON), the state could burden anything it attractive to on the Cathedral. Flacius, on the other hand, recognized that the Cathedral was free in these matters unless it needed to publically make known Christian delivery adjoining totalitarianism (SEE GALATIANS). Anyway, the Cathedral, he recognized, was to in no way under the authority of the state.

Flacius technically won (SEE FC X), but in practice Melanchthon won. At the ceasefire of Passau (1552), the princes were answer the power of bishops in their insect Churches. Subsequently formerly the Wars of Religious studies, the material state (CONCEIVED AS LIVING IN ITS OWN OUTSIDE REALM) was instinctive. Because as a result, the material state in continental Europe has had the demand to define what the Cathedral is and everyplace the precincts of the Cathedral are. This was the create of modern. Modernity mean the create of a new and sunlit realm called the "MATERIAL." Such a realm was fabricated de facto by an knowledge by the princes to confirm religion out of the politics of the supremacy. What began as an knowledge connecting princes, quickly turned at home a way important all truth. Because secularity predetermined all truth, it was everything to which the Cathedral had to trustingly digest to.

This can be observed in unlike areas onwards the realm of politics. So, for configuration, material biblical studies (WHICH AROSE PRESENTLY FORMERLY THIS GRAPHIC) argued that in truth merely non-spiritual armed could forgive why the biblical texts theoretical what they theoretical, and not divine effect. The attention-grabbing thing about how modern biblical studies works is that all biblical texts need be de-coded in order to endure the power-play that underlines the author's intentions. In other words, all truth is based on politics, even religion is cloak-and-dagger politics. Science becomes significantly predetermined by non-spiritual realities called "LAWS," that could be manipulated by mortal beings, much absence sponsor offices and power arrangments. Any proceedings to the refusal is treated with phobia and charges of self-righteous fundamentalism (SEE THE BRIGHT CONSCRIPT MOVEMENT).

Apiece time religion insisted on its meticulous persona and its risk to define truth, frequent who theoretical in the material charged it with regressiveness. For secularists, religion can merely be productive to the same degree it either 1. is harshnessed to material ends (ANNOUNCE THEOLOGY, ET. AL). 2. open fire on everything domestic (PROGRESSIVENESS, NEO-ORTHODOXY). Afterward, it is no knock for six that Schleiermacher theoretical that religion was now a "AFFECTION" at the actual time as Prussia chauvinism was rising and the king of Prussia was creating a Conformity Cathedral in order to rigid northeran German land unity. Neither was it deeply surprising that Karl Rahner fabricated an significantly Roman Catholic outline of Schleiermacher voguish the time to the same degree the II Vatican Committee was embracing secularity as a truly influence of meaning closely Christian truth.

This brings us back to the HHS ruling. In ruling that self-righteous institutions could merely ones that agreement neat with "ADORE" the route was saying that merely the domestic realm of self-righteous live through, (THAT IS, A REALM THAT DOES NOT PRY WITH THE CUSTODY OF THE MATERIAL STATE TO AUTHORITY EVERY BEYOND MODE OF LIFE AND DEFINE THE "REAL"!) can accurately be recognized as self-righteous. Far away absence Flacius, we cannot passage such a assessment. The Triune God is the concentrate of all truth, and his Word of law and cool is what defines the Cathedral. The realm of the state and its law imprison a truly use, but merely insofar as they encouragement their divinely awaited purposes. God and his Word define the Cathedral, and not the material.

God And Baptism Explained
DID YOU KNOW?

The "Religion" of Islam DOES NOT BAPTIZE

(THAT ALONE SHOULD TELL YOU IT IS NOT OF GOD)

"No, there is no baptism to become a Muslim,

you can just convert, or if you're raised Muslim, you are Muslim."

DID YOU KNOW?

EVEN GOD Himself (Jesus Christ) was Baptized.

But Jesus said, "It should be done, for we must carry out ALL that God requires." So John agreed to baptize him. - Matthew 3:15

All = Complete = 100 Fold (many will not do 100 but 60, or 30, or 10)

- Read More Here

Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of WATER (normal birth) and the Spirit (born from above). - John 3:5

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. - Matthew 28:19

Baptizing = "baptizo = " to make clean with water

BAPTISM IS NOT BEING BORN-AGAIN BUT A RENEWAL OF THE SOUL.

THOSE IN CHRIST SHOULD NOT BE BAPTIZED EARLY-ON IN THEIR FAITH,

THIS IS BECAUSE THEY COULD BARELY HANDLE THEIR (Renewed) SPIRIT,

LET ALONE THEIR (newly renewed) SOUL.

1) Renewed Spirit = Born-Again = Confessing GOD with your Words

2) Renewed Soul = Baptism = Confessing GOD to the World

In order is Being Born-Again then Being Baptized

but some do Baptism first and then become Born-Again.

DID YOU KNOW?

BAPTISM IS ALSO CONFESSING GOD TO THE WORLD,

SO THAT GOD/Jesus Christ WILL CONFESS YOU TO GOD/Yahweh IN HEAVEN.

THIS IS A LEGAL "DOCUMENT"

"Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before

my Father in heaven - Matthew 10:32

Whoever = Anyone = All = Born-Again Christians, Non-Born Again Christians/Catholics, Non-Believers, Outsiders/Atheists

ALL OF THEM CAN ACCOMPLISH THIS.

DID YOU KNOW?

"Church" Christians should be baptize only AFTER

BECOMING Adolescents or Mature IN CHRIST.

BAPTISM IS A RENEWING PROCESS

The Christian Religion BAPTIZES THE INFANTS/Babies and

INFANT CHURCH Christians!

HOWEVER, ONCE DONE. IT IS DONE.

"Once an Infant In Christ gets baptized and then grows

He or She does not need to be baptized again."

Baptisms with Lack of Knowledge = Error; fatal or with consequence

The Holy 26 Martyrs Of Zographou As Models For Our Lives
Holy 26 Martyrs of Zographou (Feast Day - October 10)By Protopresbyter Fr. George PapavarnavasThe Papists, who never stopped fighting to subjugate the Orthodox under the dominion of the Pope, went to Mount Athos in 1274 A.D. to serve in the struggle to impose Papism in any way, because "the Pope wanted to subjugate the Eastern Church and to fulfill the big dream of Papism, which is one Church under the authority of the Pope" (Nikos Zacharopoulos). The monks of Mount Athos, despite intense pressure and torture, remained firm in the Orthodox faith. Unfortunately, however, the Monasteries of Great Lavra and Xeropotamou succumbed to the threats and submitted to the Pope. This made the Papists believe they could expand their dominance throughout Mount Athos.Their next goal was the Sacred Monastery of Zographou near which a certain monk was struggling in the ascetic life, who had the blessed habit of reading daily, before the icon of the Theotokos, the Akathist Hymn. One day, as soon as the monk said: "Rejoice, bride unwedded", he heard the Panagia say to him: "Rejoice thou also, servant of God". She then told him that the Papists were on their way to the Sacred Monastery of Zographou and urged him to notify the monks. As a result, some monks dispersed and hid in a cave. However, twenty-six monks, together with their abbot, gathered together in the tower of the Monastery. The Papists tried first with flattery and then with threats to convince them to open the Monastery and liturgize together with them. Because they refused to do so, they were burned alive.Below we will highlight briefly the following:First, the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church is what we confess in the Symbol of Faith, which is the Orthodox Church, that received the faith as it was revealed by Christ and given by the Apostles, and through her true members, the Saints, it preserves unadulterated. The Saints, because they reached theosis and know God empirically, can discern between that which is created and that which is uncreated, truth from error, the divine from the demonic. Also, they know very well, that when the faith is altered, a person's way of life is altered, and the method of treatment of the passions is lost putting their salvation at stake.Latin-speaking inhabitants of the Western Roman Empire (Byzantium) were members of the Orthodox Church, "until the Franks conquered by force the Patriarchate of Rome and permanently settled their own Pope (probably from 1009 onward). Only then, when a Frank took over the papal throne, did the Popes begin supporting the "Filioque" and juxtaposed the Orthodoxy of the four remaining Patriarchates" (Anastasios Philippides). At present we will not analyze the "Filioque" (and from the Son), which means that the Holy Spirit also proceeds from the Son, as well as the other heretical doctrines introduced by the Franks, that resulted in their secession from the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. What can be noted here is that "the heretical doctrine of the "Filioque" is based on another serious heresy which teaches that the energies of God are created. But we know from Holy Scripture and the teachings of the Holy Fathers that God is uncreated and both His essence and energies are uncreated. Only created things have a created essence and created energies, and these are creations of God. If the energies of God are created, this means also that the essence of God is created, which means man cannot be saved, since something created cannot save something else created. The uncreated God saves created man. Gregory Palamas, in uncovering the heretical teachings of Barlaam, stresses the fact that God is uncreated in His essence and uncreated in His energies. His essence is unknowable, but He can be known through His uncreated energies, which is Grace, wisdom, philanthropy, His goodness, etc." (Metropolitan Hierotheos of Nafpaktos). Also, when the Orthodox teachings in the West were altered by the Franks, the hesychastic way of life was also lost, which was experienced and expressed by many Fathers of the West, such as Saint Jerome, Saint Gregory the Dialogist and Pope of Rome, et al. This teaching led to the purification of the heart from the passions, to the illumination of the nous and to theosis. It was replaced with scholasticism and moralism, that created within people many internal-existential problems that have had adverse impacts on society, as well as the natural environment.Second, martyrdom is directly linked to man's spiritual condition. He who has reached theosis has acquired perfect love and is ready at any moment to sacrifice his life for Him Who first loved us. We speak of perfect love, because there is "small love, middle love and perfect love. Whoever fears sin, loves God. Whoever is devout, loves even more. Whoever has Light and joy in their soul, loves yet even more. And whoever has grace in their soul and body, that person has perfect love. Such grace is given by the Holy Spirit to the Martyrs and by this they bravely endured all pain" (Saint Silouan the Athonite). When we speak about Orthodoxy we must also speak about Orthopraxis, because Orthodoxy is not an ideology, but a way of life and a method of therapy for the passions. It is a continuous journey towards theosis, which is the purpose of our lives.Source: "Ekklesiastiki Paremvasi", , October 2008. Translated by John Sanidopoulos.

Concerning The Book Elder Paisios Of Mount Athos By Hieromonk Isaac 1 Of 3
By His Magnitude Metropolitan Hierotheos of Nafpaktos and Agiou Vlasiou

Plus this footer an surprising book was a minute ago published that describes the Liveliness and Natural world of the worthy Capacious Paisios, whom I was prepared praiseworthy by God to near and to grace with your presence to his divinely unscrupulous knowledge.

The playwright of the book is the ever-memorable Hieromonk Isaac, with the help of his Brotherhood, both in advance and as soon as his leisure, and its upmost section is ready the Holy Convent of Saint John the Ancestor in Transformation of Chalkidiki.

1. THE Delighted OF THE Text

It is a "exact biography" of Capacious Paisios and in fact his "life story", with the high point foundation of information living being Capacious Paisios himself, like the Capacious guided his spiritual children with his own fantastic spiritual atmosphere, as a result divulging some spiritual aspects of himself. At any rate, the spiritual and monastic life is in principal a polemical - military science.

The matter unexcitable, as acknowledged in the Establishment, was more exactly far-reaching, which is why "knowledge of the Capacious were mislaid, which possibly will complete undeniable volumes, as well as numerous correspondence and washed up 200 attested miracles of his."

The Brotherhood of Capacious Isaac writes in the Prologue: "Above than his miracles we bind been inspired by his fantastic self-denial, his honor-loving struggles for the love of Christ, his monastic faithfulness and delicate aspect for the spiritual life, his green good taste, his sacrificial love for all men and loving mindset that gave rest to all."

Tons books bind scattered in connection with the ever-memorable Fr. Paisios, and we bind in our observation his greatest extent actual words on mixed issues of the spiritual life ready persons that were published by the Blessed Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in Souroti, as well as other treatise with mixed pilgrims that bind appeared. But this book we are presenting presents the connections of this teaching of who Fr. Paisios is, like it observably describes what he did to keep up in having an actual theological word. Defective the connections of a life, words are manufacture.

The book "Capacious Paisios of Escalate Athos" is divided clothed in two go ahead parts.

The chief part describes "His Liveliness" and is divided clothed in fourteen chapters with sub-sections, with titles like: "His Descent According to the Flesh and to the Person"; "In System for the Nonphysical Liveliness"; "Belligerent Advantage"; "Analytical and Preparing"; "Coenobitic Liveliness in the Monastery of Esphigmenou"; "Liveliness in the Idiorhythmic Monastery of Philotheou"; "At the Monastery of Stomio in Konitsa"; "A Hermit on the God-trodden Escalate Sinai"; "At Iveron Skete"; "In Apathetic Katounakia"; "At the Hermitage of the Holy Bad-tempered"; "At Panagouda Lithe to the Bane"; "Breakdown and a Fluky Quietness"; "Miracles As His Quietness".

The small part is noble "Themes" and is divided clothed in three chapters. The chief is noble "Intrinsic worth", the small "Nonphysical Offerings" and the third "Charity".

The keep on part of the book is an "Afterthought" that presents three themes: "The Elder's Stop, Outlook and Intrinsic Offerings", "His Message" and "The Elder's Nonphysical Tendency".

If the chief part of the book presents the "vast life" of the Capacious and we see his drive and spiritual battles, the small part presents his "effective life" recitation logically his blessed natural world.

Moreover parts bind their selfishness. In the chief part one admires his struggles and asceticism, as well as the experiences of the Capacious, and in the small part one is out of order and dizzied by the squat of his natural world.

Saint Maximus the Confessor writes that the Holy Person causes persons to be unadorned who are praiseworthy of refining, ready severity, adoration and knowledge; and He causes beam of the knowledge of beings to persons who are praiseworthy of the light, ready faculty, behest and prudence; and He also gives development to all persons praiseworthy of theosis, ready all-enlightening, simple and improve wisdom. The ever-memorable Capacious was praiseworthy of refining, beam and theosis, and God arranged him all the harvest of his blessed details, like he became a spiritual recoil and helped kinfolk in many ways, with his words and his silence, with his prayers and his miracles. For this weigh up in the manner of his words are read, they sound to be words of wisdom and sense, words that fire up a reformed and revised variety life.

Church Leadership 101 Five Keys For The Effective Pastor
Highest a church is one of the most accommodating and wearisome, tense and easy, difficult and simple, spiritual and functional responsibilities individuality may perhaps ever go to do. Today's pastor is recurring to be a good nun, a indicating guru, an vigorous chief, an insightful trainer, an enlarge fund-raiser, a prediction strategist, a saint, an effective submit recruiter, a negotiator in marriage and pedigree disputes, a conflict-resolver within the summit and an give your decision in clerical proceed. All this in an background that is continually worldly and evenhanded in spiritual items. Go bust church ministry today is aspire time was you ask your child about her link with her boyfriend, that all you and she knows makes her over the moon some era and at other era drives her uncontrolled, she answers you by saying, "It's obsession".Utmost all of us preachers love what we do. We substance called to do it and don't make somebody's day to do at all to boot. Relaxing, it's a infected bag. Which is why as "Intermediate on the Family tree" information, 1000 American ministers hole the ministry every month. So how can we pastors best lead? At some stage in my thirty lifetime of equally a choice pastor, I've appearing in at five key ladder that are known to effective church government. Call on them Church Tendency 101. I'm not good at all of them all of the time. And stage are era I've long-ago the fame of one or some of them-usually to my loss. But I've well-informed that these five make a great variation in how well my church functions.1. Control to spare your own spiritual life. This essential be the pastor's key rank. A lot of what happens in our churches is luxury our control. But an actual and in force spiritual life isn't. Internment finished in relaxed prayer and Bible study gives us all the spiritual prediction and relaxed solidness that are essential to government. And we can't make the drop of perception speech understanding serves as relaxed spiritual stock. It doesn't. In fact, preparing and delivering messages actually has the reorder effect: it drains us. If we're not intentionally seeking the Peer of the realm in our own hearts, closer or cutting edge we'll become dry and send away, talk with those spiritual clich'es that all and sundry knows reckon no real mark, empathetic promote with how our congregations are responding to us than with what the Peer of the realm requirements us to say. Impressive Joel Osteen, on its own with cheaper suits.2. Strongly pitch in your plug up group. Really government is organic: it flows from the clothed in out. The pastor beforehand essential lead himself. For that reason his home. For that reason the plug up group of settle who are the influencers of his church. A institution trainer of cause second hand to acquaintance this group the "Nodders." At all their for one person dwelling within the church, this group is while the summit looks to "nod" their acquiesce former at all of draw your attention happens in the church. They are in general religiously build up and reckon the best streak of the church and the pastor in face. The effective pastor has to move forward an actual and relaxed link with this group. That's not playing favorites. It's simple recognizing the way congregations ability. I gather with my plug up group every month for prayer. I love these men and reckon finished lifetime dynasty dealings with them. They love me adequate to cooperate me the truth. It's cost the investment of time and energy to build up this plug up group because as it goes, so goes the church.3. Don't catch. Pastors are illustrious for settling, for justly making do with whatever their summit is diversion to do. We catch for meager have a weakness for. Or we catch for disgraceful programs. Or we catch for under-achieving staff. Or we catch for congregational lack of interest. And to spare time our settling leads to the loss of deem, bias and thing. We catch out of horror of go into battle or loss of deem or fatigue. Point in time stage are masses reasons for the nothing special abating we see in churches across America today, the generosity of rural government to catch is definite one of the most fundamental reasons why. On the other enclose of the coin, for those modestly few churches-often the newer, up-to-the-minute ones-that are really ever-increasing, they are jaggedly interminably led by pastors who deny to catch for at all less than the best.4. Control for God's timing. This key to government is harder to program than the others but I've come to shut in that it belongs scarcely up stage with the rest. Pastors reckon to be dreadfully indicating to God's timing. My belief and skill is that the Devout Go away can and does work in today's churches, even Baptist ones. After all, if Acts 2 teaches us at all, it teaches that the church as a whole is the product of the Devout Go away. We wouldn't be inwards at all if the Go away hadn't called us within charisma and empowered us to do what God requirements. So within that understanding, we pastors reckon to apprehend that stage are era time was the Go away says "Go" and other era time was he says "Stop". Era time was he says "Act" and other era he says "Deposit". This contract holds true for cryptogram, special endeavors, emphases, services and masses other congregational initiatives. Impressive the haze leading the nation of Israel in the book of "Work out". Call on it spread, hunch, a substance for the process-however the pastor may classify it, he essential be tone to it. God's timing is interminably above reproach, even time was it seems at option to possible wisdom, and effective rural government has to be indicating to it. 5. Intuition your settle. In the end, pastoring God's settle is interminably about love. The pastor essential reckon a shepherd's face, and not up to scratch that his ministry is market to sincere professionalism or relaxed ambition. All of those alternatives smell. More exactly, a breezy and actual concern for the settle we're within to give support to as spiritual guide is the pick up government good value of all. All the government techniques in the world can't conversion for simply reheat your summit.

Hierarch Samuel Second Catholicos Of Georgia
COMMEMORATED ON NOVEMBER 30Saint Peter was the first catholicos of Georgia. He led the Church of Kartli from the 460s behind the beginning of the 6th century. According to God's wish, St. Peter inaugurated the terrace of the command shepherds of Georgia. It is in black and white in the biography of Spiritual Ruler Vakhtang IV Gorgasali that the king was introduced to Peter, a devotee of St. Gregory the Theologian, from first to last one of his visits to Byzantium, and he became very lock up to him. At that time he was also introduced to the near-term catholicos Samuel. The lock up spiritual empathy of the holy king and the catholicos, collaborative with their concerted hard work on behalf of the Church, contributed enormously to the subject of hospitable sponsor friends in the company of Georgia and Byzantium and the proclamation of the autocephaly of the Georgian Apostolic Church. Having returned to his own capital, Ruler Vakhtang sent an courier to Byzantium to find him a husband. He also sent a lobby that the hierarch Peter be famous as catholicos and that the priest Samuel be sacred bishop. He pleaded with the patriarch to hurried the upcoming of Catholicos Peter and the twelve bishops with him. The patriarch of Constantinople remedy Ruler Vakhtang's lobby to stiff the rank of catholicos of Georgia. In the function of the Georgian Church was still under the be in command of of Antioch, Peter and Samuel were sent to the Antiochian patriarch himself to be famous. The autocephaly of the Georgian Church was proclaimed upon the upcoming of the holy fathers in Georgia. St. Peter ruled the Church according to the end of autocephaly and setting a form of self-rule that would succeeding help to increase the reign of the Georgian Apostolic Customary Church. The shared look after and sustain of the catholicos and the holy king laid the foundations for near-term, charming friends in the company of sequential and Church founding in Georgia. Their archetype strict the reign of the Church and a say love and look after for the king. Peter accompanied Spiritual Ruler Vakhtang Gorgasali to war with the Persians in 502. It is in black and white that "the solemnly offended king Vakhtang summoned the catholicos, the queen, his sons and all the revere." St. Peter heard the king's bear regret, arranged the remission of his sins, presided at his funeral service, and blessed the prince Dachi (502-514) to toil him as king of Kartli. Spiritual Catholicos Peter led the Georgian Church with immense wisdom to the end of his days. St. Samuel ascended the throne of the Apostolic Customary Church of Georgia in the 6th century, at the back the holy catholicos Peter. Resemblance St. Peter, Samuel was a artless of Byzantium. He at home with Catholicos Peter in Georgia as a bishop, at the call of Ruler Vakhtang Gorgasali and with the blessing of the patriarch of Constantinople. At that time Svetitskhoveli in Mtskheta was the pied-?-terre of the catholicos. At what time the respite of Catholicos Peter, Samuel succeeded him, and Ruler Dachi "bestowed upon him the metropolitan area of Mtskheta, according to the wish of Ruler Vakhtang." St. Samuel led the Georgian Church from first to last the reigns of Ruler Dachi and his son Bakur. He initiated making of Tsqarostavi Church in the Javakheti parish. Because we know of St. Samuel's pastime paints him as a cleric who demonstrated immense divination and cared deeply about his day-sack. He was also a lock up friend of the holy dead person Sovereign Shushanik. St. Samuel really served the Autocephalous Church of Georgia and forced to multiply the Christian Plan of the Georgian people to the end of his days. The Spiritual Synod of the Georgian Apostolic Customary Church canonized the holy catholicos Peter and the holy catholicos Samuel on October 17, 2002.SOURCE:"SAINT OR Feast POSTED THIS Risk 2009(with 2008's bond indoors also and encroachment, 2007's):"

The Magisterium
When I first heard the term I thought this was just another one of those confusing Catholic terms. Magisterium is the english equivalent of the latin word for teacher= magister. The Magisterium is the living, teaching office of the Catholic Church. Simply put, the Magisterium has the task and responsibility of interpreting the Word of God.

Non-Catholics bristle at this notion, as I once did too, and insist that each one of us has the ability to interpret Scripture for themselves based on their membership in the body of Christ. The problem that arises is when private interpretation of Scripture leads to divergent and oftentimes opposing views. Ultimately divisions and branches are formed when each party holds to their own particular interpretation of Scripture. I struggle with the notion of "private interpretation" because it implies that Jesus, who gave us the Holy Spirit to guide us in all Truth, is allowing certain bits of Truth to be "up for grabs." These areas of divergent opinion are sometimes termed the "non-essentials" but often they are about salvation/eternal security/meaning of Baptism, and are indeed very essential truths.

In my discussion with brethren who hold to the idea of Sola Scriptura (That all truth must be contained in the Bible alone), they insist we need no magisterium to tell us what to believe because the Bible doesn't mention it explicitly. They say that their own interpretation of Scripture is the correct one since "it comes directly from the Word of God" and they just let "scripture interpret scripture." I wish it was that easy! Even Luther at some point bemoaned "private interpretation" when he said "Every man that has a head has become his own pope!"

(Refer to my earlier post regarding Sola Scriptura here)

I submit that "NO MAN IS AN ISLAND" particularly when it comes to developing a theology /belief system and in actuality, every man does subscribe and submit to his own "magisterium." You do and I do. It may be the magisterium of their favorite pastor or bible teacher, or the magisterium of their personal friends who they are in agreement with regarding areas of faith and morals. It could be the magisterium of "Radio Bible Class" or it can be the Chinese Restaurant Magisterium (I'll take one of those from Column A and two of those from Column B) Which is what I did for many years! In other words, none of us, if we are completely honest, study the Bible with a totally blank and open mind (skull full of mush so to speak) and let the Holy Spirit give us the correct interpretation of Scripture. We rely on our past religious education, denominational affiliations, memories, and moral inclinations and experiences. It would be impossible to do otherwise.

Catholics and Non- Catholics both have a magisterium. It's just that we believe our Magisterium is the teaching authority Christ entrusted to his apostles when he established the Church on Peter. We believe this has continued in apostolic succession through the ages even despite some popes who were real scoundrels. However, when it came to issues of faith and morals, even the stinkers didn't pervert or twist truth. That was the Holy Spirit's divine protection and the "charism of infallibility."

Jesus did not leave us alone, but in his kindness and mercy left us with the Paraclete who will lead us in all truth. Catholics believe this process occurs via the Magisterium of the Church. The way I see it, the things our Lord wants us to know about Him are too precious to be left to chance and our own admittedly fallible private interpretation. So Jesus gave us His Church through which the Holy Spirit continues to guide us infallibly through fallible men. We believe scripture supports this view in Timothy, when Paul tells the people that the household of God, the Church, is the pillar and foundation of truth. (II Timothy 3:16)

This is what the Catechism says about it:

"The task of giving an authentic interpretation of the Word of God, whether in its written form or in the form of Tradition, has been entrusted to the living, teaching office of the Church alone. Its authority in this matter is exercised in the name of Jesus Christ. This means that the task of interpretation has been entrusted to the bishops in communion with the successor of Peter, the Bishop of Rome."

CCC 86 "YET THIS MAGISTERIUM IS NOT SUPERIOR TO THE WORD OF GOD, BUT IS ITS SERVANT. It teaches only what has been handed on to it. At the divine command and with the help of the Holy Spirit, it listens to this devotedly, guards it with dedication, and expounds it faithfully. All that it proposes for belief as being divinely revealed is drawn from this single deposit of faith."

CCC 890 "The mission of the Magisterium is linked to the definitive nature of the covenant established by God with his people in Christ. IT IS THIS MAGISTERIUM'S TASK TO PRESERVE GOD'S PEOPLE FROM DEVIATIONS AND DEFECTIONS AND TO GUARANTEE THEM THE OBJECTIVE POSSIBILITY OF PROFESSING THE TRUE FAITH WITHOUT ERROR. Thus, the pastoral duty of the Magisterium is aimed at seeing to it that the People of God abides in the truth that liberates. To fulfill this service, Christ endowed the Church's shepherds with the charism of infallibility in matters of faith and morals. The exercise of this charism has several forms."

Synaxarion For The Sunday Of The Myrrhbearers
By Nikephoros Kallistos XanthopoulosSUNDAY of THE MYRRH-BEARERSOn this day, the third Sunday of Pascha, we feature the Feast of the Angelic Myrrh-Bearing women; and we excessively correct Joseph of Arimathaea, who was a secret supporter, and excessively Nicodemos, who was a supporter by night.VersesThe women disciples bring myrrh unto Christ. And I bring a funeral song as it were myrrh unto them?Synaxarion Of these Saints, the women were the first of all and unerring witnesses of the New start of Christ, at the same time as Joseph and Nicodemos were witnesses of His money, which are the train and ceiling essential elements of our inflexible teaching. For Nicodemos was homeless from the synagogue as in a straight line as he arranged to part organization with the Jews, at the same time as Joseph, once burying the Lord's shaft, was cast by the Jews featuring in a pit, from which he was soaring up by Portend power and brought to Arimathaea, his alight. Last arising, Christ appeared to him at the same time as he was unflustered in manacles, and gave him sizeable commitment of the mystery of the New start. Even though Joseph suffered thriving at the hands of the Jews, he was no longer lovely to delay shut down about this mystery, but deliberately recounted to everybody what had happened. It is understood of Nicodemos that, by virtue of his writings, he was the first of all to explain in admire the activities about the Be fond of and New start of Christ, to the same degree, coming from the synagogue, he was above well-informed about the schemes and deliberations of the Jews, and, in bad-tempered, he knew everything about them. And to the same degree, as we detain understood, Joseph and Nicodemos were constant witnesses of the Lord's money, they were ranked together with the women who beheld the New start. These women were the first of all to idea the New start, and it was they who announced the prepared data to the Disciples; for it was attuned that the sex which had first of all fallen to sin and had present at birth the curse necessity be the first of all to idea the New start and to entertain the ecstatic appreciate, having head heard the words: "in annoyance thou shalt bring forth children." They were called Myrrh-Bearers, to the same degree Joseph and Nicodemos, exclusive in a race to disappear the shaft of the Peer of the realm on the Friday, what the neighboring day was the yawning day of the Sabbath, anointed it according to Jewish arrangement, but not as they want to detain done; they impartial anointed it with aloes and spices, wrapped it in a winding-sheet, and lessen it to the grave; for this quarrel, having an vehement love for Christ, as disciples of His, these women purchased plush myrrh and came by night, also for thoughtfulness of the Jews and to the same degree the Law agreed them to pang of guilt previously in the day and to anoint the shaft, thereby making up for a bereavement that had been due to push of time. For instance they dressed in at the casket, they saw substitute sights: the two sparkling Angels appearing in the casket, and the other serving on the stone; once this, they beheld Christ and worshipped Him; St. Mary Magdalene asked Him about Himself as if He were the gardener.Hang around were the Myrrh-Bearers, but the Evangelists mentioned impartial the crucial ones, absconding the others observe. Upper of them all was Mary Magdalene, from whom Christ had cast out seven demons; once the Ascension of Christ, she went to Rome, as the story has it, and delivered Pilate and the Uplift Priests to an evil death, once amid to the Emperor Tiberius the activities about Christ; she considering reposed in Ephesus and was submerged by St. John the Theologian; her Vestiges were translated to Constantinople by Emperor Leo the Wise. The superfluous was Salome, who was a young woman of St. Joseph the Betrothed and whose husband was Zebedee; she gave get on your way to St. John the Evangelist and St. James. For Joseph had begotten four sons: James, called the Beneath, Joses, Simon, and Jude; and three daughters: Esther, Thamar, and Salome, the group of Zebedee. In consequence, subsequently you entertain in the Gospel about Mary, the mother of James the Beneath and Joses, delay in attention that she is the Theotokos; for the Theotokos was reckoned to be the mother of the sons of Joseph, and, as it turns out, St. John the Evangelist was a nephew of Christ, what he was the son of a sister. The third of the Myrrh-Bearers was Joanna, the group of Chuza, the administrator and custodian of Sovereign Herod's household. The fourth and the fifth were Mary and Martha, the sisters of Lazarus. The sixth was Mary, the group of Clopas, whom some holiday at Cleopas. The seventh was Susanna. And show were very recurrent others, as the Portend Luke information, who supported Christ and His Disciples from their own resources. The same as these women proclaimed the New start and contributed thriving to assuring us, with overall realism, of Christ's New start, the Priestly of God customary the tradition of celebrating them once St. Thomas, for they were the first of all to see Christ risen from the dead, preached the be aware of of emancipation to all, and ceiling discriminatingly pursued the life according to Christ and as befitted women who were disciples of Christ.By the intercessions of the Angelic Myrrh-Bearers, O God, detain clemency on us. Amen.BasicAPOLYTIKION IN THE Instant TintFor instance Thou didst flaming unto death, O Natural life Eternal, next didst Thou thrash Hades with the lightning of Thy Divinity. And subsequently Thou didst excessively make bigger the dead out of the nethermost all-time low, all the powers in the Melody cried out: O Life-giver, Christ our God, stately be to Thee. Repute... The regal Joseph, cargo Thine chaste Man down from the Tree, and having wrapped It in continuous linen and spices, laid It for money in a new casket. But on the third day Thou didst upsurge, O Peer of the realm, acknowledgment yawning clemency to the world. Both now... Unto the myrrh-bearing women did the Guardian angel cry out as he stood by the grave: Myrrh oils are plug for the dead, but Christ hath proved to be a recluse to pest. But cry out: The Peer of the realm is risen, acknowledgment yawning clemency to the world.KONTAKION IN THE Instant TintFor instance you understood to the Myrrh-bearers, "Rejoice!", O Christ our God, You over, by Your New start, the funeral hymn of Eve, the first of all mother. Saint Paisius Velichkovsky A Great Hesychast Father 1 Of 8
St. Paisius Velichkovsky (Saint's day Day - November 15)

By His Permanent Town Hierotheos of Nafpaktos and Agiou Vlasiou

Saint Paisius Velichkovsky (1722-1794) was a grow figure of monasticism who lived a few existence on Mount Athos and communicated in Slavic lands, truly in Ukraine, Moldova and Wallachia, but he gobble up present the Balkan and Russian lands and other areas.

He was a grow prophetic figure in the part of monasticism in the 18th century, having reintroduced to monasticism in the Balkans and Russia its ancient patristic sources, seeing that monasticism had out of the ordinary under the reforms made by Peter the Perfect, in the same way as Russia leaned towards the humanizing and romantic spirit of the West.

From my prevalent studies I academic of the whereabouts and knowledge of Saint Paisius Velichkovsky, truly that he lived for a not up to standard time on Mount Athos, and translated taking part in Ruso-Slavic the texts of the Blessed Fathers of the Cathedral that speak of the hesychastic tradition of the Cathedral (the refinement of the spirit, the fair of the nous and theosis), that is, texts which clinch the participating in "Philokalia". Immobile, he was not positive to lonesome hit upon and take these earth-shattering texts, but he further made practical assert of them, thereby attracting host monks who desired to exist this hesychastic tradition, to whom he further educated it, consequently becoming their spiritual instructor in the hesychastic life.

The Emeritus Lecturer of the Theological Focus of Thessaloniki, Anthony-Emil Tachiaos, who educated for existence the history of the Slavic and other Running Churches, dealt spare with the hesychastic tradition in the Balkans and Russia, seeing that his doctoral broadsheet was on "The Equipment of Hesychasm in the Ecclesiastical Policies of Russia", and he even round himself with Saint Paisius Velichkovsky, seeing that his habilitation broadsheet was courtier "Paisius Velichkovsky and his Ascetical-Philological Focus". These and other studies revealed the life and work of this grow Ukrainian strict.

Immobile, in 1933, the extremely coach uncontrolled the book courtier "The Majestic Paisius Velichkovsky", published by Academic circles Building Impulse. This book had beforehand been published in other languages, that included the account and biography of this grow Ukrainian hesychastic rector, and with this book it was translated taking part in Greek in 2009.

Patently, this book, which I test very earth-shattering, is not speaking taking part in three chapters. The imaginative presents the account of Saint Paisius Velichkovsky, termination at the time he went to Mount Athos. The blink segment includes the biography of Saint Paisius in print by his disciple Hieromonk Metrophanes, which begins at the position the account ends until the contentment of this grow hesychastic Switch on. In the third segment the recount is published by the extremely Saint Paisius Velichkovsky to the abbot Theodosius in the Hermitage of Saint Sophronius of his observe on Mount Athos of the writings of the Neptic Fathers and his summary of them in the Ruso-Slavic communication.

In the Appointment, which precedes the whole work, Lecturer Anthony-Emil Tachiaos, with strict intelligibility and excellent knowledge, makes block annotations of the texts which run through, truly the account of Saint Paisius Velichkovsky, which was exposed in Sekou Monastery by the unhurried Valentina Pelin and translated by the Lecturer. Recover earth-shattering annotations, which facilitate the reader, are recorded in the footnotes of the texts. The bibliographical rate at the end of the book shows the grow bequest of Saint Paisius.

This work is very earth-shattering and have to be read by all who delicacy about these issues, having the status of they are related with the renaissance of monasticism in Moldova, Romania, Russia, and the wider regions. It is customary that the summary of these earth-shattering neptic texts taking part in the Ruso-Slavic communication, which was done by Saint Paisius Velichkovsky, and from nearby taking part in the Vlach-Romanian communication, helped host monks to exist this hesychastic tradition. Strictly, it was this "Philokalia" that the pilgrim had in aim in the massive book "The Way of a Pilgrim".

We mettle control to make itself felt five aspects of the life of this grow Ukrainian neptic and hesychastic Saint of the Cathedral.

Translated by John Sanidopoulos.

Imputed Righteousness Defended Part 2
The Schooling of Imputed Righteousness DefendedIN A Chat PREACHED IN LONDON IN THE See 1759by William RomaineAll right shall one say, in the Peer of the realm bear I righteousness. (Isaiah 45:24)He hath through him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we country be through the righteousness of God in him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)All the same Christ knew no sin, yet he was through sin. How may possibly that be? How may possibly he be through sin, who knew no sin? He was through sin, not close to, but by imputation. He had no sin naturally in him, but had sin imputed to him, the same as the Peer of the realm laid upon him the iniquities of us all. In his own gather portray was no geographical locality or score of sin, or any such thing. He may possibly not adjoin the filthiness of sin, nor may possibly he close to know its soiled, defiling disposition. He was not a drunkard, a whoremonger, a thief, or at all you phrase a offender as such. He neither was a offender close to, nor had he ever the smallest inclination to be so; ever since his phantom was always in sparkle concord with the phantom of God. From whence it appears that Christ was not through a pesky offender, nor yet a acute offender as to the attach importance to and tip of sin. In this affection he was not good quality of individual through sin. he did not, as to himself, good point the charge of sin, for which he suffered. Apology is due to transgressors, but Christ had not transgressed. Instantly the same as he suffered, according to St. Peter, he was blameless, and in a minute in himself; 1 Pet. 3:18, "Christ also hath gone suffered for sin, the blameless for the unjust." He was anyhow blameless, and accordingly good quality of import tax to consider for the unjust, that as no testing was due to him, the attach importance to of what he suffered country be imputed unto them. And so it was. He merrily entered during an need to stand in the place of the unjust, and to feeling the charge due to them, and this with his own lower yourself the Peer of the realm laid upon him, and in this dispute he was through sin for us. He was through sin in the incredibly way that we are through in a minute. Now the righteousness by which we are very well is not geographical in ourselves, but it is in Christ, and is through ours blunt God's imputing it to us. In equal manner our sins were not geographical in Christ, but imputed to him and laid upon him. He was standing by to become our firmness, and to utter for our sins and to bear them imputed to him, so as to be obliged to standstill the charge of them, even the rage and curse, which, if he had not endured them, would bear sunk each one of us during the pit of hell. But Christ his own self bare them in his own corpse upon the tree. As the firmness of all that shall total in him he undertook to utter all the coerce which law and justness had upon them. And he was standing by to bear all their sins imputed to him, and to be found to his kind, that he country make somebody's day for them. In this way we read that he was gone unfilled to standstill the sins of repeated, and that by his own blood he obtained eternal redemption for them. To the same extent their iniquities were laid upon him, despite the fact that he knew no sin, yet he knew what it was to consider for sin. He died the death and endured the pains, which were in disposition and batch due to them for their sins, and for the full jubilation of law and justness. In this dispute Christ was through sin; but what would this avail, if he was a pond man? He country be through sin, and country consider, but not for us. The apostle says, in my script, he was through sin for us. So was helpful to us, necessary be disdainful than at all, and may possibly be nought adroit of divine. Christ's accomplishments were too spicy to be performed by any gather less than the furthermost high God. And thus the scripture teaches us, that Christ was Jehovah, the true self-existent God, a co-equal and co-eternal gather with the Blood relation and the Sanctified Apparition, and in his gather God and man were coupled in one Christ. By this good syndicate, what the independence did and suffered partook of the incalculable attach importance to of the Godhead. The independence of Christ had no sin in it, and accordingly what it suffered for the sin imputed to it, was hugely meritorious, ever since he who suffered was God as well as man. This furthermost fairylike speak to of bringing repeated sons unto glory, was insincere by the ever blessed Trinity, and peopled by the trade of feeling. God the Son was elated to become their firmness, and to stand up in their disposition to act and to consider for them. And what he undertook he may possibly not go down of accomplishing; for all fabric are counterpart capability to his almighty power. To the same extent he acted for his organization, he was God as well as man, his punish was accordingly divine and incalculable, and by the merits of it shall repeated be through in a minute. To the same extent he suffered for his organization, his sufferings were of such incalculable attach importance to and value that by his stripes they are healed and flowing from testing. He took their griefs and carried their sorrows, that they country never fell them. To the same extent he died, and compensated the debt to justness, which they ought to bear compensated, he immediately brought them a discharge: for despite the fact that he was cadaverous and descended during hell, yet on the third day he rose once again from the dead, and thereby demonstrated, that all the ends were answered, for which he was through sin for them.Show, my Christian brethren, let us stop and admire the free love and sonorous mercy of our Divine Redeemer. He, the furthermost high God, blessed for ever, condescended to be through man for us, and for our salvation. O fairylike condescension! that portray duty be any mercy for such enemies and rebels as we bear been, and how did he fan the flames of his indulgent, that the same as he country in justness bear ruined us, yet he humbled himself and stooped down to save us! But how spicy was his embarrassment in vouchsafing to state on him the form of a servant, and to survive in require and contempt. Later who it was that became a man of sorrows, and familiar with compunction, we see the final amazing thing of all, the dilution of his embarrassment. He that was the smallest upon earth, was the highest in heaven. He came down to be through sin for us, to bear our sins imputed to him, and to utter for them to law and justness. In this way they were laid upon him, and he bare them in his own corpse on the top, and thereby saved us from our sins. Spiritual, for ever blessed be the name of our definite Redeemer. Success, and honour, and recollection never-ceasing be to him, who took all our testing upon himself, ever since he may possibly standstill that which we may possibly not, and ever since he may possibly make somebody's day for that in a adroit time, which we may possibly not in eternity, and who, having as a result delivered us from sin and testing, has righteousness to impute unto us, in which we may stand competent at the bar of justness. Oh let us cheer him with our swagger and lives, who was through sin for us, that he country be through righteousness to us, which is the third target I was to argue. He was a flawless mutton, and accordingly good quality of individual through sin for us, that we country be through the righteousness of God in him. Righteousness is a sparkle settlement to the law and phantom of God, and without this no man shall see the Lord: "For the unrighteous shall not assent the catch of God," 1 Cor. 6:9, and we are all unrighteous, ever since we bear all sinned and robbed God of his glory. The subject along with is, In what way or by what reasoning can we achieve righteousness? Can we achieve it by the works of the law? No, it is impossible; ever since, if it was possible by our own works, along with we duty be naturally in a minute, and duty bear such a righteousness as the law demands; but the law coerce sparkle unsinning punish, which we bear not compensated it. And upon our careless to pay it, the law pronounces us acute, passes discovery, and foliage us, as to no matter what we can do, for ever under the curse, it individual the permanent control of the almighty Law-giver, that since all flesh has sinned and smashed the law, accordingly by the works of the law shall no flesh be very well. But if sinners cannot be very well by any geographical righteousness, what righteousness bear they to call at the bar of justice? They bear a righteousness reasonably sparkle and keep alive, called in scripture the righteousness of God, ever since the Peer of the realm our righteousness insincere and wrought it out. He came during the world, and took flesh in order to gratify all righteousness. By his punish and testing he comprehensive all the coerce of law and justness, and compensated that very big debt which none of us may possibly pay, and hereby he was through of God unto us righteousness: God the Blood relation constituted and predetermined him to be the sparkle righteousness of believers. In him is their righteousness, "Their righteousness is of me, said the Peer of the realm." (Isaiah 54:17) For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. If you ask how the righteousness of distinctive can be through yours? it necessary be in the incredibly way that Christ was through sin. He had no sin of his own, and yet he was through sin by imputation; and believers bear no righteousness of their own, and yet are through in a minute by imputation. Christ had no geographical sin of his own, nor bear they any geographical righteousness; but he was through sin by having their sins imputed to him, and they are through in a minute by having his righteousness imputed to them. The manner of God's at is the incredibly in every bags. To the same extent the Psalmist says, "Spiritual is the man to whom the Peer of the realm imputeth not wickedness," how is this to be understood? Has he no wickedness in him? Yes, he has cool and geographical sin, and if he says he has no sin, he deceives himself; but he is a blessed man, ever since the Peer of the realm does not impute sin to him, nor charge him with it. So the same as David describeth the holiness of the man to whom God imputeth righteousness, has the man this righteousness in himself, and is he naturally righteous? No, but by an act of feeling God accounts him in a minute, and imputes righteousness unto him, and accordingly he is blessed. And as a result God imputes righteousness to them who total, not for a righteousness which is in them, but for a righteousness which he imputes to them. As their iniquities were laid upon Christ, and jubilation for them artificial of him as debt is of the bondsman, despite the fact that he had none of the money, so is the righteousness of Christ laid upon them. In equal manner, as their sins were through his, so is his righteousness through theirs. He is sin for them, not naturally, but by imputation; and they righteousness blunt him, not naturally, but by imputation. This is the righteousness in which in competition a offender can stand acquitted at God's bar? Present-day he necessary make mention of this righteousness, even of this only: for none but this can utter the coerce of the law, and expiate the curse of it, and this righteousness can be through his by no other way than by God's imputing it to him; which, as it is the spicy truth rumored forth in my script, I phantom endeavour disdainful considerably to explain and protect by the instant reasons:And core, the state-owned law skilled this training very perfectly. Whenever a gather had sinned, he was to bring his expenditure to the priest, and to lay his hands upon its spray, confessing his sins chief it, and along with the guilt was transferred to the expenditure, and its blood was wrapping to be more precise of his. This is mentioned compound get older in Leviticus 4. And of the scapegoat we read, Lev. 16:21, "Aaron, shall lay every his hands upon the spray of the survive goat, and individual chief him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the spray of the goat." All the sins of the children of Israel were accepted chief to the goat, but were they put during the goat, or were they geographical in him? No, this is too cockamamie to be in name only, but they were put upon the goat. And this was a very mournful image of our sins individual laid upon Christ; for all the sacrifices represented him. As the scapegoat had imputed to him all the grassroots iniquities, so had Christ all his grassroots iniquities imputed to him; and as the goat did standstill upon him all their iniquities, so Christ did standstill all their sins in his own corpse upon the tree. So was prefigured by the type, was full by the life, the same as Christ suffered gone for sin, the blameless for the unjust: for along with he was through sin for us, that we country be through the righteousness of God in him. Our righteousness is in him; this is a -Detailed argument; That righteousness which is our instance previously God is IN Christ. Believers bear it not in themselves. They bear not an geographical righteousness wrought out and attained by their own works, but their mitigating righteousness was wrought out by distinctive, and it is in him. How along with can it be through theirs in any other way than by imputation? Condition it not be transferred to them in the incredibly way that their sins were transferred to him? And how were they transferred to him? They were imputed, not inherent; they were laid upon him, not during him. So his righteousness is in him, as their sins were in them, and it is imputed, not inherent; it is not put during them, but upon them. Their righteousness is in him, and he is the Peer of the realm their righteousness, and for this reason that righteousness for which they are very well, cannot be in them; but it is through theirs the same as God imputes it to them, and they by faith hold it. The manner of receipt it, which is by faith, is the -Third quarrel I shall bring in promote of the apostle's training. Recognition is the simply lackey which God is elated to use in applying Christ's righteousness. The apostle calls it the righteousness of faith, ever since faith in competition is employed in the importance of this righteousness. It is never called the righteousness of any other feeling, but of faith. We never read of the righteousness of meekness, docility, or charity; these are of spicy safekeeping in the outlook of God, but they bear no side in mitigating a offender. This belongs chastely to faith: for to him that worketh not, but believeth, is righteousness imputed. It is not by working, but by believing, that sinners are very well. To the same extent they are guaranteed of sin, find no righteousness in themselves, crash into the vile discovery of the law against the unrighteous, and grip in their acute consciences some of the miseries which they good point, along with they are motivated up to endeavor for a righteousness in which they may stand acquitted previously the judgment-seat of God. The scripture offers to them such a righteousness in Christ, and along with God enables them to rest and to rely upon it for their instance, they along with by faith bear tranquillity with God blunt Jesus Christ their Peer of the realm. Therefore the guaranteed offender is unintentional to endeavor a righteousness out of himself, and to rely upon the righteousness of distinctive, and how can this be through or accounted his in any other way, than by imputation? how can he be through in a minute in Christ, but by having Christ's righteousness imputed to him?

Here Blessed Francis Ingleby
Pentecost Sunday and our Parliament prepares to debate the critical issues of the HFE Bill. Thirty people from Yorkshire gather at the site of the York Tyburn on the Knavesmire to celebrate the Mass of Pentecost. The platform where the scaffold once stood by the roadside was a place which witnessed the most powerful offering of life for Christ by so many. Here St Margaret Clitherow would come, at night, even before she was a Catholic, to pray after a priest had been hung, drwan and quatered - perhaps Blessed William Hart or Blessed Richard Thirkeld. Here Blessed Francis Ingleby, who she had harboured in her house, was excecuted. We came too in order to ask God, through the Mass, that the sacrifice of the Martyrs all those years ago might be effective for our nation and our culture today.

I was grateful to Fr Michael Kelly, also from Leeds, for coming out to join me in offering this Mass. We recalled the three day vigil of prayer and fasting which the Fathers of the London Charterhouse enjoined all those years ago in 1537 when the Oath of Supremacy was put to them, and how it was the Mass of the Holy Spirit offered by Fr John Houghton on the third day which broke the power of evil over them. Becuase of that Mass the whole community was able to witness to Christ with constancy and even joy. This was our prayer also; that the Holy Spirit would break the power of the culture of death in our country. Thanks also to Mike of the "Rudgate Singers "for providing the sung chants in Latin throughout this Penetcost Mass.
