But most working magicians, or at least the ones that I have dealt with, tend to be lousy at taking orders. And most Strict Observance Orders will rapidly kick out or lose their working magicians. The reason for this is that experience quite often conflicts with "authorized lore" and most Strict Observance are knee-deep in the idea that "authorized lore" is the best, and sometimes only, way to accomplish magical goals.
A few years ago, I was present when a new Strict Observence Order was being started. One day, the subject of Atlantis came up. I stated my opinion that Atlantis was one of those pieces of lore that needed to be kicked to the curb. The leader of the group flatly told me that I was wrong because the GH Frater S used Atlantis in his lessons, therefore it was tradition and had to be included in the system. After the death of his father, he left his mother and went to Athens, where he entered a monastery. But through the prayers of his mother, who was very concerned about him, the Lord returned him to his parental home in a miraculous manner. He spent four months there, then with his mother's blessing he went to a solitary place on a mountain called Ioannou (or Ioannitsa). Here there was a church dedicated to the holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian, where he lived an ascetical life in constant prayer and fasting. He was tonsured there by some Elders who were on pilgrimage. After this, St Luke redoubled his ascetic efforts, for which the Lord granted him the gift of foresight.
After a seven years on Ioannou, the saint moved to Corinth because of an invasion of the Bulgarian armies. Hearing about the exploits of a certain stylite at Patras, he went to see him, and remained for ten years to serve the ascetic with humility and obedience. Afterwards, the saint returned again to his native land and again began to pursue asceticism on Mount Ioannou.
The throngs of people flocking there disturbed his quietude, so with the blessing of his Elder Theophylactus, St Luke went with his disciple to a still more remote place at Kalamion. After three years, he settled on the desolate and arid island of Ampelon because of an invasion of the Turks. Steiris was another place of his ascetic efforts. Here brethren gathered to the monk, and a small monastery grew up, the church of which was dedicated to the Great Martyr Barbara. Dwelling in the monastery, the saint performed many miracles, healing sicknesses of soul and of body.
Foreseeing his end, the saint confined himself in a cell and for three months prepared for his departure. When asked where he was to be buried, the monk replied, "Throw my body into a ravine to be eaten by wild beasts." When the brethren begged him to change these instructions, he commanded them to bury his body on the spot where he lay. Raising his eyes to heaven, he said, "Into Thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit!"
St Luke fell asleep in the Lord on February 7, 946. Later, a church was built over his tomb. Myrrh flowed from his holy relics, and many healings occurred.

The Arts in Legend of Legaia are divided into 5 categories:
Normal Arts:
You learn them by performing the combination during fight; they are you main source of Arts Points (AP). The longer the combination, the more powerful the strikes will be, but comparatively you will get less AP.
Super Arts:
Same as Normal Arts, you learn them by performing the moves during combat, but you need to have at least as much AP as needed by the Art to perform it, they are more powerful than normal but cost AP. I found them less useful when you start having the Hyper Arts.
Hyper Arts:
They can only be learnt through events, scrolls and leveling up of other Hyper arts. Mostly they come by two, with the lower form accumulating xp (you can see it in the status window, looking at the art descriptions). Using the lower form in combat gives it some XP, and when it reaches 100, the higher form is unlocked. I noted the lower forms with a -> where they unlock the higher form in the next line.
Variable Arts:
These Arts are a form of cooperation between two players, for one of the most powerful, but costly attack of the game. Every character has two Variable Arts, noted 1: and 2:. To perform this move in combat, you need to have two characters with at least 80 AP, with one performing the 1: while the other performs 2:, attacking the same enemy (the character having performed 1: will start the Variable Art, and 2: will finish. this has no relation with character speed or attack order). You need to perform the Variable Art move (7 strikes)
and ONLY THOSE, performing other moves before or after will cancel this.
Mystic Art:
Every Player has one; this is the most powerful attack, cooperation between the player and the Origin.
To learn it you have to perform it in combat, which is only possible when the conditions below are met:
- Less than 1/2 HP left
- Full AP (100)
- At least 100 MP left
Same as the Variable Arts, to perform the Mystic Art you have to enter the moves (8 strikes) and ONLY THEM!
Most of the Normal, Super and Hyper arts can be chained, by using the last moves of the art you finish as the first move(s) of the one you chain. This leads to the most powerful combination of the game, but even chaining only one move allow you to put more Arts in one attack.
MAYA is an exception however, none of her Arts can be chained, as they form the incantation to one spell (figures)

KIT SMART IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE poets. This is excerpt, written in the mid-18th century, is from Jubilate Agno, which has to be the best cat poem of all time.
JUBILATE AGNO (EXCERPT)
For I will consider my Cat Jfry.
For he is the servant of the Living God duly and daily serving him.
For at the first glance of the glory of God in the East he worships in his way.
For this is done by wreathing his body seven times round with elegant quickness.
For then he leaps up to catch the musk, which is the blessing of God upon his prayer.
For he rolls upon prank to work it in.
For having done duty and received blessing he begins to consider himself.
For this he performs in ten degrees.
For first he looks upon his forepaws to see if they are clean.

I am in the midst of research and buried in books. I wrote about two African American Churches one in the United Church of Christ and one in the Presbyterian Church USA. That posting was Jesus Christ or Culture but not both! The subject matter is connected to 'Black Liberation theology' and 'Black Power.' I was and am concerned about the results of a revelation founded in culture rather than Jesus Christ as he is revealed in Holy Scripture.
In an e-mail from Pastor Mark Lomax of the First African Presbyterian, Church in Lithonia Georgia, who I wrote about in that posting, I received several suggestions of books to read on the subject, including "African Religions and Philosophy "by John S Mbiti and "Black Religion and Black Radicalism: An Interpretation of the Religious History of African Americans" by Gayraud S. Wilmore. I have about ten pages left of Wilmore's book and I'm halfway through another book which uses a great deal of Mbiti's book, that is, "The Spirituality of African Peoples: the search for a common moral discourse", by Peter J. Paris.
In what I am sure is God's providence, Hans Cornelder placed an article, Out of Africa about a book concerned with Christian origins in Africa on Presbyweb. The book is, "How Africa Shaped the Christian Mind: Rediscovering the African Seedbed of Western Christianity" by Thomas C. Oden. Ordering that book turned up several other good books; one I have been reading along side Wilmore's book. That book is "The Decline of African American Theology: From Biblical Faith to Cultural Captivity", by Pastor Thabiri M. Anyabwile. The other is "On Being Black and Reformed: A New Perspective on the African-American Christian Experience," by Anthony J. Carter.
I have other books on this subject; as I said I am buried in books, and, of course, still reading. But several items jumped out at me as I was reading tonight so I thought I would share them. One of them is the intentional push toward grounding Black theology in Black cultural concerns as shown in Wilmore's book, "Black Religion and Black Radicalism".
The other, a quote which resounds with clear biblical sounds, is from "The Decline of African American Theology" and is totally different. The author is an African Pastor from the Cayman Islands. Anyabwile writes:
"...does Christian theology, black or white, really leave room for an 'out with the old, in with the new' attitude toward the doctrine of Christ? Is one left to simply choose or fashion an understanding of Jesus' life, ministry and being as one chooses? Are there no consequences for what position a person takes? Moreover, can any source for developing a Christology be used as if it is equal with or determinative of the meaning of any other source?
While all people are equal, made in the image of God, and therefore of infinite worth, not all ideas are true or worth believing. And, if, as Jesus teaches, the critical question is 'Who do you say that I am?' then the stakes for answering correctly are extremely high. In the High Priestly prayer of John 17, Jesus defines eternal life as knowledge of God the Father and of himself, whom the Father sent (Jn 17:3). Moreover, in his discussion with the Samarian woman at the well, Jesus makes it plain that accuracy in our knowledge of God is one of two determining factors in God-satisfying worship. The Father seeks those who will worship him in Spirit and in truth (Jn 4:21-24). All other worship violates the first and second commandments, which prohibit both the carving and mental fabrication of idols to worship." (168-169)
The quote covers all of the idolatrous theologies being formulated today. And the author doesn't just look at Liberation theology but also at some Pentecostal heresies such as Oneness Pentecostalism and the prosperity gospel. There is much more ahead and I will eventually put together a much larger article on this subject.
On the Categorization of Magic:Almost all magic can be classified into one of two groups. The names givento these groups are varied. Some have called them the Chaotic and Orderedgroups; while this is technically accurate, it is confusing, as most firemagic falls into the group described as "Ordered", while many protectivespells are considered chaotic. Frequently they are referred to as OldMagic and New Magic, reflecting the fact that Old Magics are considerablyharder to create and to learn, and thus must be handed down by generationsof wizards. The terms we shall use are External and Internal magics, todescribe the sources of power used by practitioners of these magics.The distinction between the two types of magics is best shown by example: Example of External Magic: "If I chant the four mystic runes while throwing dried oak leaves into the air in front of me and gesturing with my enchanted athame, then that door will open." Example of Internal magic: "If I use my telekinetic powers to open that lock, then push on the doorknob, then that door will open.""Internal" magics draw power from the user's magic or energy reserves. Theyare controlled directly by the user. They need not be memorized, and nospecial ingredients are required; you just throw the right kind of energyat something, and it works."External" magics, on the other hand, tap into the fundamental chaos thatunderlies reality. Special ingredients, ritual gestures, unpronounceablemagic words, and the like are usually needed to trigger the effects.These spells must usually be memorized from books, cast, and re-memorized.They are much less adaptable than Internal magics; any change in the castingof an External spell results in wildly unpredictable, and often quitedestructive, results. On the other hand, External spells are far moreversatile, as there are a lot of things that Internal magic just can't do.For example, it's very difficult to affect something you can't see viaInternal magic, not because the forces won't coalesce or anything sillylike that, but because the caster will probably miss. Divination spellsare completely impossible with internal magic. Flight is not impossible -that's a fundamental restriction of wizardry, not of internal magic ingeneral - but it's difficult, especially compared to Triolus's EtherealLevitation, a third-level Old Magic spell that accomplishes the sameobjective at a cost of only two hen's teeth and a leaf of nightshade.Furthermore, there are intrinsic restrictions on the power of any Internalmagic user; only so much energy can be stored in any one body, and it canonly be regenerated so fast. Old Mages are restricted only by theavailability of magical spells and components, and by the rate at whichthey can memorize new spells.What is the practical application of all of this? Wizardry, thepredominant magical discipline on the world of Dirt, is a strongly Internaldiscipline. Most of its spells rely on throwing power around, and, assuch, it is extremely popular. However, there are times when one reallyneeds a divination, a long-distance assassination, or a polymorph spell.Providing these resources are the Clerics, the followers of theplaneswalkers, the source of most of the Old Magic on Dirt.
