Virginmartyr Lucy Of Syracuse

COMMEMORATED ON DECEMBER 13

Saint Lucy was uneducated in Syracuse, Sicily into the power of Diocletian. She dispersed her wealth to the weak, and finished a vow of virginity. Commencing she refused to join him, a rejected suitor denounced her to the prefect Paschasius as a Christian, and she was arrested. She was sentenced to be violated in a brothel, but with God's help she preserved her originality.

With the pagans attempted to overheat her lively, but she was not harmed by the fire. These days, she was killed by a sword grab to the gorge.

The name Lucy (Lucia) is inferior for the Latin word for light (lux), and so she is regularly invoked for afflictions of the eyes. Donate is a tradition that she was blinded by her torturers, and the church of San Giovanni Maggiore in Naples even claims to cargo space her eyes.

Today's saint want not be hot with St Lucy of Campania (July 6).
