Comment Of The Week Righteous Religious Bigotry

Bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination exist everywhere. However, there is one place where such things can to be treated as positive values rather than as vices or immoral behavior: in the context of religion. It's only religious bigotry and discrimination that is likely to receive legal sanction and praise, not secular bigotry and discrimination.

Why is that? Is it simply due to the unjustified deference to all things religious which society continues to uphold? Is it due to the assumption that beliefs surrounding gods merit less critical scrutiny? Is it the assumption that religion must be good and therefore even faith-based bigotry is, somehow, good as well?
